Interviewing at OkCoin. The Glassdoor and Blind reviews are abysmal. Are people just unhappy about the WFH change & unlimited PTO change (I personally like hybrid model and don’t want unlimited PTO bc it’s a scam)? Or is there true toxic culture going on? Would love to hear from anyone that formerly or currently works there and what type of role you were in if you can share. Edit: it’s for a non-tech role TC unknown - no offer yet
Okcoin app definitely improved one when compare to last year .
It’s not just pto policy, it’s a series of shit show. If everyone say it’s shit and you still want to try it out, be my guest. Btw which team are you interviewing?
Don’t want to say the team as I don’t want to do anything to hurt my chances. The opportunity in and of itself is an exciting one for me. Can you share the shit show series? Is it leadership? Product strategy? Technical issues? WLB? I see a lot of negative posts, but it’s unclear if the things people are upset about actually weigh more than the benefits of the job. I’m interested in the crypto space and the job offered is my dream role, so I’d be sad if “it’s too good to be true.”
Dm you
Leadership is a shit show. Nobody knows how to do a roadmap, or stay on schedule. Star changes the priorities all the time. Leadership can’t communicate for shit. HR from Beijing is always complaining that the US workers are lazy & emotional. The 996 work culture is awful.
Don’t work there, just trust blind/Glassdoor on this one. I know upstart is in bad shape but it’s probably still 100x better. OKCoin has no roadmap, no leadership, long hours into the night, Chinese language used all the time while you’ll scramble to figure out how to translate and pray you understood correctly, an extremely toxic and frankly criminal founder and at the end of the end is a shady Chinese company. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if OKCoin is involved in some massive crypto money laundering scheme or something similar. You probably won’t like it there because no one that works there likes it and most are trying to leave
Too good to be true. You’ll burn out by next year
Or won’t even last probation
The negative Glassdoor reviews are all true - no leadership, no strategy, no empathy. If you do get in expect the 996 chinese work culture, with no real career advancement opportunity. Extremely toxic. Lately most of HR has either left or been fired. Also, all the positive reviews coming in are from new hires as they "encourage" you to submit a positive review upon hire. They’re trying to game their scores as much as possible… but this tactic is failing as they can’t hide the truth.
Lmao the positive reviews are so funny because they lack any content at all and are painfully obvious they are from brand new employees that HR told to write reviews
I’m really happy there! :) I interviewed them properly. Ask questions before you join. I asked critical questions to my manager about their management style and how they deal with conflict, etc for 2 hours and they made that time for me. I made sure I got all the details of how things are run and my concerns addressed beforehand. I even requested interviews with the rest of my team after I got an offer. I asked them how much time they take off and stuff that I didn’t want to ask the hiring manager directly. You know you can request to interview your peers too? They arranged for me to ask whatever I want to whoever I want upon my request. I’m finding lots of interesting work, learning a ton, and my manager as well as my skip/entire command line has been extremely supportive of me and my ideas. I did get a good manager who taught me how to strategize around politics and the gotchas in our org and I did well following his advice. Leadership is indeed figuring things out but they’re trying to do the right thing. We are facing growing pains, but I always found everyone quite open and receptive to my feedback even if they agree with me. It seems like my case is an anomaly but it’s also not as bad as I thought after joining. I do work long hours, but I’m also finding interesting stuff I want to work on. My manager in Beijing have maintained that he does not expect or want me to work more than 8 hours. We did let in a few negative trolls that is only loud on anonymous platforms. They’re miserably stuck between not being able to figure out how to change their situation, nor resilient enough to ride the waves, nor talented enough to leave. Their negative toxic behavior of shitting on their own company is a big part of what makes their situation even worse. They shit on the hand that feeds them, and then complain about eating shit. It’s obvious why they aren’t talented enough to just leave or smart enough to figure things out. They didn’t do their homework, and now they’re like wtf. Lol
Are you Chinese? It’s a completely different experience if you are
Is this part of your okr
They run 2 month OKR cycles. 2 MONTHS!! 996 culture at its finest and the Asia teams located in Beijing are a BPO servicing OKX and Okcoin as contract workers since crypto companies are heavily regulated in China. I’d be careful and skeptical of what they say.
I still can’t believe we have 2 month OKR cycles. Nothing at this company gets done in 2 months
If you were in a position of power, starting a new team, what would you as the leader do differently to change OkCoin? - encourage working 8 hours a day - encourage team members to take time off - adapt writing culture to write memos to drive decision making? - what else?
It’s OK
You’re like the 20th person that’s tried to make that joke on Blind. Low-brow
i only see one comment
