Twitter v/s Wish

Hi I recently interviewed at Twitter and Wish for Machine Learning Engineer position. YOE: 2.5 years Here are the numbers from the offers: Twitter: (MLE II) Base: 165K Bonus: 15% Sign-On: 20K Stock (RSUs): 350K (4 years) Wish: (Relevance Engineer - Progressive) Base: 185K Bonus: N/A Sign-On: 50K Stock (RSUs): 400K (4 years; Vesting monthly after the first year.) I read very bad reviews of Wish on Blind and Glassdoor - particularly about the weak executive team and poor work culture. I didn't read any really bad reviews of Twitter. The work I am going to do at both companies revolves around Ranking & Recommendation. What are your thoughts on this? I need to make a decision soon. **The work at Wish sounds really cool!

Twitter 🎺.. Jul 16, 2019

Easy decision. Real money vs paper money (worth $0) Also see twitter benefits: "Comprehensive list of Twitter benefits (Compensation)" https://us.teamblind.com/s/88KMz7f4

I worked for wish, and it’s terrible! I left after being there for 6 months! It’s not worth the time and effort. Stay away from that place. Management sucks!! They don’t know how to do anything there... workplace sucks even more!

If you want a comfortable job doing something that doesn't really matter go to Twitter If you want to have impact and work on real unsolved problems that will grow a business choose Wish. I currently work at Wish and have worked at Twitter.

Twitter c0oake Jul 17, 2019

Wow! That is impressive compensation for the YOE. Did you do masters?

Pure Storage gunner08 OP Jul 17, 2019

Yes. I have a masters.

I'm happy at Wish, but don't know anything about the Relevancy team. I disagree that the executive team is bad. I actually find the strategy to be really good. It pays well, I've learned a lot and believe in an eventual IPO. Depends on if you want to gamble. Doesn't sound to me like you need to worry about starving in the streets.

I am looking into being a sr PM at wish. Do you know what the compensation I should target at?

Wish NfOV60 Jan 11, 2020

Sorry, I don't know anything about the PM salary bands. I'd say look on glassdoor for FB or Google. Should be comparable since there are a lot of former FB and Google at Wish and Wish is competing with them for talent. Good luck.

I’m happy about working at Wish as well, there IS problem with the management lvl, but should not directly affect you if you are not interviewing for the executive path. What you heard about the bad reputation on the culture should come from Platform team, the leadership there sucks, the team is manipulated under intimidating culture and slavery working style.

Wish dpdpdp Aug 29, 2019

Definitely not just platform team

Wish cMaz_ï Dec 13, 2019

Avoid platform.

Relevancy team has the best work life balance relative to other teams. Most people who stayed less than a year either got fired or got paid to leave. Don’t expect good words from them. How the fuck would you know whether management is effective only being there for less than a year? The company grew from $3B market cap to near $10B in 2 years time. That generally reflects the revenue growth all due to some cut throat data driven decision making process which might not rub you in the right way and you *FEEL* management is ineffective. But ma friend: NUMBERS DO NOT LIE. Note the *FEEL* vs *DATA*. 🤔 Anyhow, there’s a lot to improve in ranking and recommendations. Shit moves fast and people in relevancy are generally competent.

Wish phabsf Jul 18, 2019

It’s 11b now actually from last round

Wish nujee Jul 22, 2019

Wow you believe in NUMBERS?! What the fuck numbers executives promised every year and had we made it even once??? I had been with Wish 2.5 yr and i feel it’s hard to tell a good word, good luck with your clueless FEEL.
