On Saturday I received a mail from talent sourcing for a X company that they started a review of my job applications. On Saturday! Do recruiters generally check applications on weekends and contact people on weekdays? Or they do like at a specific time in the morning or so? And I am wondering when should I apply for a position that I am preparing for. I think many have this question at the back of their mind. Any recruiters or people around them talent sources able to answer? Or anyone with any information? #recruiting #jobs #applications #hiring
General Application Tips: The #1 tip I have for candidates who are cold applying is have a clean, easily readable resume and built-out LinkedIn profile (photo, summary, github links, job experience, endorsements, etc.) On average, recruiters or HMs take 10-30 seconds to review a resume and make a determination on fit. If your resume is hard to understand, they may just reject and move on, don’t give them that opportunity! List your core technologies/skills and key projects where you utilized them. Nothing screams unqualified as much as 20 bullet points of non-descriptive tech buzzwords. (Add those in your LI skills section so your profile still surfaces on keyword searches, but not in description of role and definitely not on resume.) Also, I don’t find cover letters necessarily valuable. If I have a 100 candidates to review, I won’t be reading your cover letter. A lot of people just recycle one for all the jobs they are applying to, so what’s the point anyway? You’d be surprised at how many times candidates forget to change the company they addressed it to as well. I’d recommend applying as soon as you are ready to interview. The amount times i’ve had an initial call with candidates who’ve applied only for them to ask for 4 weeks preparation for the TPS is staggering. Preparing for an interview is key, but do that prep work before so you can have the advantage over slower candidates as we will stop screening candidates after a certain number are in the mix. You can’t control a lot of the interview process, but you can control these things to increase your likelihood of getting an interview.
