Hi blinders I find myself in a difficult situation where I need to renege on an offer I signed recently. I am wondering what would be the best way to go about it. I very much prefer that the company (one of the FANGMULA) won't add me to a denylist (It seems that this company does have such a list). I have seen some suggestions about giving out a family reason. Not sure if the company/recruiter will buy that story. Another option is to come clean and say I have decided to pursue another opportunity and apologize and hope that the company understands. How do you know a blacklist exists for this company?
Why do you "need" to renege?
I would be honest, but I would mainly emphasize doing this as soon as possible. Sooner is better than later if they need to start up a pipeline or contact candidates they passed over, and they should hopefully appreciate your consideration of the team's needs
If youāre using FANGMULA, the it must be MULA.
I've seen people do this and they weren't blacklisted. If the same person did it twice, however...
Do this honestly or lie?
I doubt if you would be penalized by the company, though I certainly wouldn't expect anything from the same hiring manager later. TBH, I was mostly laughing, thinking about how Execs, or high ranking managers always leave "To spend more time with my family." Given that, I certainly wouldn't feel any guilt, regardless of how you respond.
depends, what are you going to say?
Looking for ideas I want to tell the truth I'm just worried it won't be well received
