Tesla Amp for EV charger

Getting a model Y and installing a 14-50 220V outlet. My main panel is 125 amps and electrician suggested to install a 40 or 50 amp breaker. Have solar and electric stove /heater/ water heater run on gas. Assuming I will charge at day and night do I have a problem of overload the panel ? Electrician said no but I called 2-3 others and they gave different opinion . Can someone more knowledgeable help me here ?

Having electric stove means you may be short. Washing machine electric stove and air conditioner are the big ticket items on 240V circuits. If you convert stove to gas then it should be borderline ok but otherwise you may need to spend $4-5k to upgrade panel. If upgrading try to go direct to 400A instead of 200 as in future you may have multiple EVs and charging 2 at same time at max current would require even more than 200

Sorry it’s a gas stove not electric. But what if I don’t use all these at the same time ? Let’s say I avoid using washing machine/dryer while charging car ? That’s only thing I can control, I also have solar and while I charge at night I expect AC to be on and if I charge during day can expect AC and other small appliances to be on

If it is gas then most likely you should be good with 125A. Do you have any heated swimming pool etc? Yes avoid running AC+ EV+ Dryer at same time and you should be good

If you want to use 30amp level 2 charger your electrical breaker needs to be rated at 25% higher.

What’s level 2 charger? I am using the 14-50 nema outlet and the default charging wire that’s come with Y

What does the local electrical code call for? That is the only answer that matters. After pulling permits, if the work passes inspection, you should be fine.
