I currently am a senior product manager at a well know midsized tech company (not disclosing) Current Salary: 160k base 15% EoY Bonus 18k stock a year I currently received an offer at DraftKings Senior Product Manager 140k base 14% EoY Bonus 18k stock a year Why I wanted to leave my current situation is because I was treated horribly by leadership at my current company. Treated like I didnât belong there and also was in a org that has been restructured multiple times. My manager treats me decent, but she is even in this situation where the org is being treated like garbage by leadership. However, DraftKings already have sparked a ton of red flags. 1) Recruiter told me a range (150-160k base 23k stock per year and 14% EOY bonus) that matched my currently salary and completely lowballed me after the interview process. I felt really disrespected and felt like they threw a bone at me because they couldnât find anyone else. So potentially I wonât be welcomed there. 2) I found out the job posting for this the role at DraftKings has been open for 7 months 3) Just a ton of back and forth from the recruiter, seemed extremely disorganized. I cannot tell if itâs just the recruiter or the team operates that way. If the team operates that way then potential red flag 4) The VP I interviewed for was actually a bit mean and tough. He was incredibly sharp and he did inform me people make sacrifices on this team. Why do I want to leave? Well I really want to stick it to leadership at my current role because of how much chaos they brought to my life from my job and show them I am valued somewhere else. I spent a lot on therapy because of my current position. Would I expect a counter-offer if I put in 2 weeks? Possibly because I own so much and do a lot of work currently in my role. However my main question is, should I leave even if DraftKings matches or take a minor have a pay cut? I really want to stick it to them and work like crazy at DraftKings because I have something to prove. However, at DraftKings, it seems like a chaotic environment from just a ton of red flags I felt during the interview. #product #productmanager #pm #draftkings #techindustry

From my experience you should find somewhere that is excited to have you rather than be a pity hire somewhere with bad vibes and enter the same cycle that youâre currently in.
Thanks for your help and insight here. I really do appreciate it
I read your last paragraph and I don't think that leaving your current job for that reason is the right decision. It might be a hasty choice. My suggestion would be to stay at your current job as long as there is no threat of termination, and continue to interview for other jobs until you find the one that you truly want.
Thank you @$@, youâre right. Itâs like in my mind, I really want this job to work out just to get out of my situation and stick it to them. No threat of termination as I do really well in my role
Never take the behavior of higher management personally. They are not your friend neither are they your family. While at some places, things are great enjoy it while it lasts if not like I said never take it personally. Do your work, expect to be compensated well for it. Itâs a business relationship. If it does not work out leave for a better place. Always leave for somewhere better else keep the status quo till that is possible. A know devil is better than the unknown.
Thank you so much for your perspective. Yes I never thought about it that way. âA known devil is better than the unknown?â
How will you feel if youâre treated just as horribly in the new job, but youâre being paid less too?
That is true as well. Thanks for your perspective
At this moment, it seems like companies know they have an advantage over staff. All companies have a pretty toxic culture at the moment. Iâd suggest staying till you find another company with at least equal if not higher TC.
Thanks for your help and insight here. I really do appreciate it
