I have 15 yoe in SDE in India. Having PR approved for Canada and deciding between moving to USA (wife already there with h1b) or both move to Canada. Wife has potential for at least 300K TC in US so we are looking for TC at least 500K to move to Canada. Is it possible at all and if so what city to land in Canada for tech jobs?
My experience being in Canada, no you can’t make that money as SDE if you are not in the FAANG. Even in FAANG you need to be in senior roles.
Try Shopify, salaries are pretty good. Won’t be 500 TC for sure but competitive salary to have a decent life in Canada
😂🤣🤣 .... Canada??? You will make better TC in India yo.
HaHaHa. So is Canada cheaper than India. I should run outsourcing firms and outsource jobs across the border.
If you consider up to 53% personal income taxation and ridiculous cost of home ownership cheap, then yes 😋. I would be happy to work on the projects Indian Engineers don’t want to touch LOL..
Not possible. Canada based companies don't have to compete with US salaries since there aren't enough competition. But you have free healthcare and dont have to compete and pay crazy real estate prices to live in a good school district, so cost of living is lower too. For swe, GTA and Vancouver are the only good options unless you get an offer from Shopify in ottawa.
I’m an SDE3 (although top of the band and hopefully will get to PE soon) and am making 450kUSD in Canada... So I think it’s possible at senior levels (PE) in FAANG.
Of course, TC $500k is possible, if you’re well-qualified. Don’t expect 1:1 salary mapping between US and Canada though.
No-you’ll be lucky to make 200k USD. Even that will be principal level in the 8-10 companies that are worth working for
someone in Amazon Canada said his SDE3 TC is 450K

List your TC and what car you drive
Anything is possible. Will you make it? I don’t know
Probably not if you need to ask the question
