I was super impressed by the massive frunk on the Lucid Air. The air is new vehicle and they maximized the frunk space in a way that the 10 year model S could not. I have a Volvo XC-40 recharge with a small frunk that I never use. But when you look at the chevy bolt, it has a short front end with no frunk. The maximize cabin space instead. Frunks only really exist because there is space left over when you pull out the ICE. There's also safety issues if you put something not so deformable in the middle of you deformable crash structure. So are frunks a fad of early EVs that we will gradually see less of EV platforms are further refined? Or are they one of the main benefits that people buy an EV for?
Better to have enclosed trunks/frunks for secure storage versus having stuff stored openly i.e. a hatchback.
You can also get frunk on rear engine sports cars so it is not exclusive to EV. On my Porsche 718 I use frunk for groceries but a bit small for luggage suitcases
But then you don’t have a trunk
