Is crowd funding for personal projects risky?

I'm thinking about opening a GoFundMe or KickStarter for a personal project i've been working on for a little over a year. I'd just like to raise enough money to make it my full time gig. It's sort of a Hail Mary and I have no expectations. Is it risky to post your ideas on these public crowd funding websites? Does anyone actually fund 1 person software projects (not video game related)? Does crowd funding add a lot of stress to the project? #personalprojects #crowdfunding
