Same old story, raised in India, came here for grad school, working for 8years now. Parents asking to send them $$ every month. When refused, they mentioned that I am not doing “Putra Kartavya” sons obligation Parents background- Dad sole earner. Joined family business at 17, now retired ~60. Always paid bare minimum taxes, not reporting income. Invested all cash in land to avoid taxes. Now working with local politicians to launder/transport money #relationships #relationships
How rich are they
Depends on how much and for what ?!
If they are wealthy already, don’t feel obligated to send them any money. I wouldn’t send a $ if I were you. My suggestion would be very different if they were scrambling for money in retirement.
Agree 100, I am totally down helping out if they really need it. But helping out because that’s what everyone does “send money to parents “ is absurd
Your dad must be loaded. Use his money to get EB5 GC and then send him $ to repay the debt.
You’re probably showing off your wealth to them, and they want to show off it to their friends and relatives. All asking for money when one doesn’t really need starts with someone showing off their wealth.
See, I know it doesn't apply to everyone, and not everyone needs to do it, but I have been earning for 8 yrs now, and sending them money since my 1st paycheck. At the beginning my mom was like there's no need, but it was my stance that since their son is earning well, their standard of living should increase, give them financial room to enjoy more. I do believe what I am today was majorly because of their sacrifices.
Thanks, that’s a good perspective
Gujju?
Gujjus are the worst. They'll sit down at dinner and calculate how much the fucking veggies cost to make that thing.
I second Amazon 😂
