I have 4 YOE as a Project Manager, 1 more as a Business Analyst, 2 more as a Project Analyst. I am based in Vancouver, Canada. I have moderate technical skills, meaning I can code with google as a crutch and have no problems participating in higher level design discussions - however whiteboarding code or really detailed scalability problems are beyond me. I have my PMP and CSM but no CS degree. What roles are a good fit for me at Amazon, given the above? How technical do the interview questions get for TPMs? Unfortunately there are minimal (literally 1) Program Manager roles available in my region on the non-technical side right now so I am wondering if TPM is out of reach or worth a shot. #amazon #TPM #pm #programmanager
Take a look at the TPM interview prep guide: https://engineerseekingfire.com/how-to-prepare-for-technical-program-manager-interviews/
A TPM role will be apt. Interview will not include any whiteboard coding but mostly around technical domain depth and system design in some cases. Prepare well for LPs with some great experiences around those LPs. You don't need to have a story for each LP but more the merrier. What matters is how/what you did in a situation and what you could have done differently. They really appreciate if you are a bit self critical as well during the interview. Even I was concerned about chosing between a TPM vs PM Non tech but number game changes drastically during TC. Go for a TPM role if you have solid experiences and know what you did in your job. Best of luck.
Same - TPM pays more than eve Product manager - tech. Stay within tech job family.
Hey, I am in a similar situation. PMP & scrum certified non technical project manager (but in Alberta) considering opportunities in tech for better TC. Wondering how are things going for you & any insights/learnings you can share.
