I had a interview last week and just got feedback from Linkedin today. They told me that because I took pauses in-between questions and asked clarifying questions to them, it signified lack of confidence and so they decided to not move ahead. Kinda confused. Since when was asking questions and taking a 15-30s pause signify lack of confidence.. some people don’t even pause and struggle to answer :( Am I doing something wrong..i usually get good feedback for being thorough and thoughtful.. #tech #interview
Such weird feedback. On the contrary taking pauses is a sign of someone being thoughtful and thorough before providing a response. Of course it's difficult to really know what the overall context was, but in general taking pauses or asking clarifying questions is never a bad thing. Some interviewers set the ground rules from the start where they ask you to make whatever assumptions are required (and state those assumptions) instead of asking questions. In those scenarios I would understand that they can count you asking questions as a negative since they have already told you how to treat that situation, but if none of that was provided to you, then it's really weird for them to have provided this feedback.
Just typical PM questions. I wasn’t told that I couldn’t ask questions or take pauses.. I was also taught to ask clarifying questions and ask for time to answer a question properly..
Good riddance for you
Bizzare
Stupid feedback. Answering right slowly is always better than answering wrong quickly.
Kinda thankful that most people are thinking the same 🥲 confidence took a hit hearing that feedback
I actually had to learn to talk slower in presentations and meetings so it sounds more thought out and significant.
Mouth should move faster than the brain can think. Best way to get shit software, that’s why they don’t want to hire u
Pauses are good as long as they aren't long. 30s might be a too long for some questions IMO.
Ok more like rephrasing the question and taking like 15s
30 seconds? like you sat in silence just thinking about answering for 30s? you weren’t solving a tech problem, just formulating your answer staring off into space for 30 seconds and then you took a deep breath and answered? 30 seconds in silence is an eternity
The reality is a lot of interviewers don't know how to run an interview. You got unlucky.
Most, like >90%.
PM hiring is flakey right now. They are looking for reasons to say no. I dont know why they even interview
Did you do that for every single question?
Nah more for questions I had to take some time to think about. It was a PM role
Your interviewers sucked. Sorry to hear that
