Has anyone made the transition from working in sales at Gartner to tech or vice versa? How does the comp/benefits and management/career growth compare? Open to thoughts! #sales
no, but gartner has attempted to recruit me before. it’s been a few years, but i think gartner pay was around $120-$200k/yr, in line with lower/mid-level in tech at best. most gartner people i know left after 2 years, so doesn’t seem like there’s much growth potential compared either.
Yes. Gartner tends to have lower TC, but splits are 60/40 vs the standard 50/50 in tech. Also you get paid on renewals as per of your comp plan and then a small growth number. A bad year you’ll still make 90-95% of your TC. At a startup you could make only your base.
Interviewing now, this is helpful
Gartner is a very tough product to sell and there are very talented people there. Ultra competitive and tons of red tape and process involved in the role. It can pay well but it will burn you out very fast.
Just curious - what do you actually sell at Gartner?
