What happened to it? There was so much hype around it in 2014
I don't remember that being true
Yep yep, yelp
Define tier-1
I remember when I was a new grad and this senior SWE at yelp interviewed me. He gave me a hard time and didn't like me from the jump. I looked him up on LinkedIn and pretty sure I make more than him now.
Luka doncjc
Luka led the Mavs to another win today. š
Doesn't Google maps/reviews mostly offer the same features (and you don't have to rely on a third party if you're an android user)
Really?
Same for Quora
Quora died around 2017/2018 when 1. the Indians took over and started writing long-ass low quality essays, 2. You were forced to login to see their answers, 3. And even then some answer were locked behind paywall, 4. Annoyed the original/hardcore quora users, so they migrated to reddit, 5. Users stopped clicking on quora links, which fucks up their seo 6. Quora became irrelevant and reddit posts became the top search results instead, 7. And is now basically dead with chatgpt
Yes but it was very hip startup to join in 2012/13
I donāt know the product is profitable and alive and well, steady growth in ad revenue. Not as big as it could have maybe been. Hard competing against Google. It has its place and itās doing well there (offering services, genuine reviews).
No one stays tier-1 for more than ten years.
Look internally first, and youāll get your answer
Mind expanding on the answer? Why did they fail to monetize their business? And yes, I still use yelp
I was referring to how Microsoft used to be teir 1 then fell off, hence the ālook internallyā. Yelp is probably plagued by the same issues. I donāt know but Iād guess milking the cow and diminishing returns on innovation lead to general downfall.
