L7 PM offer at Google. Should I join ?

Offer is with the core team. Googler’s ; what’s the climate like ? Are mass layoffs , PIPs looming on the horizon ? Last thing I want is join and then be thrown back out into the market as LIFO. I am very willing to pass the offer at this stage. Would prioritize risk mitigation over future rewards. TC : 500K

Just use the offer to leverage big refreshers at fb. At least at fb they are mostly done with layoffs. Google is about to get rekt further. Googlers I know are told to stack rank and they are being told ruthlessly cut low performers and coasters Amazon style

You probably won't be laid off if you join right away. No matter what the culture at Google is right now, it'll always be better than meta. Don't you have a lot of stocks unvested at meta right now which will be worth millions if you stay for 4 more years?

I joined Meta when it was at $370, so there is not a lot of upside regarding my initial grant. Refreshers were not so good in 2022 because the company multiplier was low. This year has been good, but RSU's will be at 460, so history might repeat itself at vest.

Core team did get affected in the recent layoffs.. btw you didn’t mention what is the offer and how much Meta RSUs you have ? I’m at Google and imagine it is how Meta was in late 2022 and 2023. The sentiment inside is really bad and morale is all time low. Consider they already did a stock split, I’m not sure how much growth they would have. Stocks could probably touch $200 in a year or so if the AI fever kicks in and also they layoff another 10k folks, only then Wall Street would be happy. Meta sacrificed 23k people out of probably 80-90k employees to be where it is now. So you never know Google may take that route.

Personally it worked out for me as I was affected by the layoff and my tc was better than at Meta. But work n culture in cloud sucks. I have my Meta door still open, as they reached out to return but I have kept it on hold so when I return I can try level up but of course need to clear the interview. Currently L6.

Recent layoffs seem to be product based more than performance based. Is your offer for an area with projected growth? Somewhere Google isn’t a leader but wants to be? Or a stagnant product area?
