Got a job at a FAANG company and I'm about to switch to it. I just read that they have a conflict of interest policy against doing side-jobs that include mock interviews. Right now I work at InterviewKickstart (5-10 hrs per week) which does exactly that and it's a decent side gig. I mostly do it because it's enjoyable (money isn't really great). There are tons of engineers that work at Google, FB, Amazon, etc that also do this exact sidegig at different companies like InterviewKickstart. Are they just not worried about getting fired? How likely is it that I'll get fired if I feign ignorance that this is a conflict of interest? Honestly, it's a BS conflict of interest anyways – FAANG companies don't own basic computer science concepts (DFS, DP, etc). Is this actually medium/high risk (enough to need to stop)? TC = 250k **in Chicago**
You talk to legal and get it waivered. If there’s no real conflict of interest, there’s no real issue. Your company wants to be sure you understand that you aren’t representing your company and aren’t promising anything. I’ve seen FAANG companies do mock interviews at university events. There’s nothing special about them. It’s legal covering their asses.
I am generally risk averse here. Is it really worth risking a FAANG job over some pretend interviews? Find another hobby instead, maybe tutoring
You declare your side gig. It isn’t difficult. You sign paperwork that everything you do is separate from work and not using work resources.
This company explicitly states that interview mocks are a conflict of interest. I'm assuming Adobe doesn't see them as a conflict of interest but Google, Facebook, and Netflix definitely do.
