I’m looking for some smallish interesting companies to work for that have good WLB and culture. The main blocker for me is remote work, as many places I’ve looked into seem to be in person only. I just want a job I can be excited about rather than something I’m only excited about for the money. Here are some examples I’ve looked into so far, focused on fitness/outdoors, gaming, music, and language learning. A lot of non-remote in this list, though. AllTrails Geocaching Strava Valve (not very small, I know) SpanishDict Duolingo Flat.io Patreon Edit: I should clarify, this is for general full stack SWE, with no real interest in crypto, AI, or anything military. Just the kind of companies that provide a service where it’s a little helpful thing people or businesses use. Feel free to add any companies people might be interested in, though. Looking for something away from the bad feeling I have about working for big tech or big banks
Not valve, that place is a vipers pit

There’s often a HUGE pay cut and WLB cut associated with working on fun niche consumer products like these. We share similar interests and I looked at roles at Strava, Tonal, Red Bull Media, TrailForks and some other outdoors-related companies. They all paid peanuts and usually wanted you in the office. Ended up deciding it was better to get a cushy remote well paid job in big tech and spend my free time on my hobbies.
Anything $150k or up for good WLB at 4YOE is fine for me, I really don’t want to deal with the process of doing a bunch of interviewing and leetcode for a big tech job that I kind of hate, kinda sucks if I can’t find anything else
