My mother lives in india; is not financially or technically sophisticated; but is very plugged into her community, likes to give to charity, and is very savvy on how to help people with money. I would like to send her money that she can then distribute to needy people. I trust her judgment more than some faceless organization in the US. But if I send her money, I can’t deduct it as a charitable contribution. Is there some practical way where she can use the money for charity in india and I still get the deduction? I suppose it’ll be hard because there’s so much scope for fraud in the general case?
I wonder if you can write off gifts to people... 🤔
