MSFT IDC to Google India

I am currently working at MSFT IDC at L61. I have completed interview at Google India for L4 and mostly likely will get a hire from HC as per my recruiter. I am currently doing team match with GCP teams. In regards to that, I have couple of questions - 1. In a lot of posts on blind, I have seen lot of conflicting information about Google India GCP teams and how they are very much different in culture from the rest of google and also have low hiring bar. Will it be a good switch or should I try for non-GCP team if possible. 2. Can anyone recommend good gcp teams in India ? 3. How easy is it move internally to non-GCP team if I join a GCP team 4. Based on my current TC, how much can I expect to get from google. I don't have any competing offer. All the interviews went well except one where I got leaning hire feedback. TC - 40 LPA (Base - 26 LPA, Bonus - 15%, Stocks - 42000 USD over 4 years, Joining Bonus - 5 LPA) YOE - 5.5 Edit - Got L4. Waiting for offer. #msft #google #tech

Two things, 1. Due to LH, it's possible you might get down leveled. Again, a possibility, in which case your pay might get matched but level would be L3. I say this because G is hiring lot of folks, and have rolled out L3 to borderline cases with 4-5 YoE. 2. Since recruiter is doing team match first, it's usually done to make HC packet stronger. Note the word usually (not always). All the best OP. I hope you make it at your desired pay and level.

Thank you for your inputs.

Is L3 at 3.5 yoe a good option?

Join Google if you get L4.

1. Try for non-GCP teams if possible. But it's doubtful you will get matches because Cloud is the org that's growing fast. 2. I remember reading bad reviews about Apigee team on Blind. Just something to watch out for. 4. Without competing offers, G is extremely likely to try and lowball you. If I were you, I would ask for ~65L at least and see how the negotiation goes from there.

Thank you. Any tips for negotiating without an competing offer

Hard to negotiate without any leverage. Be prepared to walk away if they quote too small a number.

Thing with Google India is, almost all the orgs are new in India, so culture wise it's all parachuted from Amazon/Microsoft with some amount of Google culture. Don't stress too much on GCP vs non GCP. For team match avoid business applications org. Try for a core services team (Identity/DB etc.) Comp, internal mobility etc. Is all the same.

Microsoft random_psn OP Mar 23, 2021

Thank you for the input. It was helpful. What do you mean by business applications org? Any example? How about Gcp networking? How is that?

Please keep us posted as to how the negotiations go.
