I'm debating whether or not to get a second 27" or upgrade to a single curved ultrawide like the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9. I previously used two 27" 1440p monitors before reducing down to one because i wasn't a fan of having multiple monitor stands taking up desk space, the bezel gap, and all of the extra cables. It was a fine aesthetic choice and works for gaming after work, but I'm severely lacking monitor space for IDE + Chrome + Slack + email during the workday. I like the idea of going curved ultrawide, but I do have concerns about how viable it is for dev work since I unfortunately have to spend more time doing that than gaming. Ideally I'd like to put IDE in the middle at 16:9 with Chrome and email/Slack on either side. I am also concerned with viability for gaming and streaming 16:9 content. Can I use the middle 16:9 for gaming with either side for chat/discord and chrome or am I locked into gaming fullscreen UW? I also can't deny that the $/pixel ratio is insane for these curved ultrawides. I'd love to hear your thoughts. tc 130
Get an ultrawide just to piss everyone off whenever you have to share your screen

I read the title and thought you were talking about trailers 🤣
I have the G9. It’s nice. Had for a few years. Mac can only do 120 hz refresh. The monitor is massive and you will spend at least 200 bucks on a mount for it. It’s heavy so standard ones won’t work. If you don’t mount it, it takes a lot of deck space, so you want a deep desk. I comfortably have an IDE, a chrome window, and another window of my choice open at a time. The third you could split horizontally to get two smaller ones like chat and email. You need to play games in windowed mode, and it can be annoying at times. Full screen works as well, and you can make the game window smaller but it has black borders on the side. You will want to get a 3p window management software for snapping. It’s much bigger than it looks. It is my favorite monitor I’ve had. I think I may like a 42 inch LG OLED more though. That could fit 4 normal sized screens.
Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. Are there ways to lose the title bar when gaming windowed? I could see that being annoying but not the end of the world.
Not that I’ve found. And when you pick a resolution like 2560x1440p like the monitor is for half, it will actually not include the game bar in that. So the bottom of the game, equal to the size of the game bar is off screen. I’ve seen ways around this but it is inconsistent and annoying. I usually just play in a smaller resolution
I’d go with 2 monitors, helps to share multi apps on 1 screen and be able to confidential Teams msg’g on the other without them seeing
I've been thinking about this, but I've gotten into the habit of sharing individual windows so I don't think it'll be an issue
I have a 34", 21:9 ultrawide. Compared to dual 27", 16:9 monitors, you pay a lot more per pixel and screen area. Fullscreen (games, youtube) can be a pain. The monitor is much heavier and larger, which is a pain when rearranging your desk or moving. Curved monitor boxes are obscenely large if you keep them, or if you don't, you might have trouble finding a nice way to protect them for a move. The monitor you're looking at is also too heavy/large for most monitor mounts. But not having a middle bezel and being able to center a window is very nice. They're simpler and cleaner to wire up since there's only one display. There's a niche case where you might not have enough space for dual monitors but you do for an UW.
What're some of the fullscreen game/video woes?
For me, it's choosing between fullscreen or having another window open on the side. Can't do it with one monitor, but you can with two. For games, say you want to play at 2560x1440 (2K res at 16:9). If you play fullscreen, you get black bars. If you play windowed, the system bar and title bar obstruct a little of the vertical space of your game. Which can be annoying if you want to have another window open on the side, like a guide or wiki or something.
43’ 4K.
I love my ultra wide 49. It does suck for watching stuff which I miss on one monitor
How so?
It cuts off on the sides so you’re seeing like a smaller screen (but widescreen doesn’t have good height)
