This really took off for the manager at Facebook guy, so why not ask a new grad stuff, too. I’m 2 years into a job at Lyft. I consider New Grad anyone who isn’t a “Senior” engineer and is in their first job out of school.
If you could join any company regardless of tc, what would that be?
Companies are always changing, so it’s hard to say. It’s always good to be part of a success story that’s currently being written — and I’d be happy to stick around Lyft for awhile longer to see us recover and become profitable in 2021. It’s surprisingly fulfilling to be have been part of an underdog company that often gets hated on, and Lyft has a good culture and people, which makes the day to day enjoyable.
Advice for Covid new grads? Something that hasn’t been said on Blind because I’ve lurked here for a year :)

Please do not defile my chat from atop the working man’s pedestal. If you need those loafers spit-shined though I have nothing to do down here but shout
Around what time does Lyft start hiring new grads for SWEs in Spring 2021? Any idea on the headcount for next year?
Has COVID 19 or the california prop that almost banned lyft impacted the job security in lyft? Did you recieve lyft equity bonus?
COVID-19 was negative, and we had a layoff in April. The California prop win was a huge break for Lyft. I would say it affected job security positively as it put profitability in our line of sight. I got a small retention bonus in April, but nothing to write home about. 🙂
How's dating life?
Not too bad! Can’t reveal too much, but it was meh the first year out of school, but picked up the second. I feel content, and that’s in the Bay Area.
How long before you learned the basics college didn’t teach?
I had done multiple FAANG internships before, so had pretty decent skills in coding and the likes. Most of the learnings to me have been in managing systems over a long time, planning, maintaining, evolving, etc. I would say it took a solid year of being confused about how the sausage gets made. Gradually have gotten better at proposing, scheduling, and rolling out projects.
But anyway, I do feel like I am getting better and better at existing within a corporate environment each half. 🙂 And I’m learning a technical thing here and a technical thing there every week that some might consider a basic. So, it’s still an active effort.
What’s the TC range for new grads SWE?
At Lyft, ~200k flat and 50k signing bonus. Can be higher/lower depending on stock performance but that’s the range at offer time.
Threadsafe what portion is the base.
Could you share a 50% discount code for all my future rides? Thanks!
We'll give you that. Uninstall the lyft app first.
Done. Your move.
