Chicago folks, how do you like it there? Is it a good place for raising family? Evaluating offer, please provide inputs on life in Chicago
They wore thick masks pre-pandemic winters b/c of weather, wind + cold can do some damage.
Any other concerns? Do you live there?
Chicago is a great city outside of the weather.
Do you live weather? What are good neighborhoods?
Moving there too in a couple of weeks from Portland.
Chicago is a great city, tech might not be booming but it's a real city with affordable housing. Most people in tech live in the northern suburbs and commute downtown by Metra but there's many safe & clean neighborhoods in Chicago proper if you want a shorter commute with the L.
Could you be more specific about northern neighborhoods?
Give it a few minutes and you’ll probably get someone throwing shade at chicago because of crime. It’s a major city and, like most major cities, has its problems. But it’s a great place to be, imo. Great food, lots of different types of people, many events, etc. It’s also cheaper than most. A tip: read about all the various neighborhoods and try to pick one that fits why you’re looking for.
Looking for good school district and safety is priority. Any recommendations for neighborhoods?
Really cold weather and lots of crime sadly
Do you live there?
Amazing city, crime is no issue, just live in the nice area, crime is isolated
What are nice areas?
It’s not that cold, same temps as NYC. I ran outside along the lake at night alone March - December. Crime is only in small pockets mostly on the south and west sides. Chicago is my fav city in the United States HAND DOWN.
