Service getting better a bit.
Best except the entertainment system which is hit or miss. The flight is clean, on time and the food is great and most imp direct flight to major cities saving tons of time (and $$ for the country)
Tata is improving things gradually. Already AI has become the most punctual airline in India, something which was a distant dream under gov management. Give it some time and AI will be one of the leading airlines in the world. AI is backed by Tata and Singapore airlines join venture, both with exceptional records in hospitality & travel industry.
They recently ordered 500 new jets
I literally flew Air India a couple days ago and will never fly Air India if I can help it. Here were the main issues (which may or may not be Air India’s problem necessarily but still will affect my decision to fly with them) - Connecting through DEL is an absolute pain. Even 3 hours of connecting gap isn’t enough because you have to collect bags, check bags, go through security and get to the gate. Security at DEL is like the hunger games. - Dated and barely functional entertainment system. - Seats are absolutely tiny. As a 6+ ft man, my thighs were absolutely mashed against both sides of the seat the entire time. - Lack of blankets. They literally do not hand out blankets unless you walk to the back of the plane and request them for it. Even then, I saw people get denied because they “ran out” - Food was mediocre. - Idk why someone mentioned that the flight was clean because it wasn’t. Smudges all over the windows, grease/curry marks on the seats, it was gross - Lastly, inappropriately priced. I can live with all these problems if the flight was cheap or cheapER. but they aren’t. Don’t fly Air India.
Had a very similar experience to this in the past week
a couple more points to add: - no loyalty program so you cannot earn points or spend points to upgrade, etc. not that business class is worth anything in AI. - when I hadn’t seen the crew for a good 4 hours, I went to back to see what they were up to. they were huddled in the back with the curtains drawn, and was chitchatting with no care in the world for the multiple passengers that had their “assistance” lights turned on. truly pathetic. the crew works their job as if it’s just another government office in India.
Worst service, bad and broken seats, mediocre food, and old noisy aircraft. Expensive fare on top it all. Avoid if you can.
Calm down. Air India was privatized barely a year ago. It was mis-managed and poorly run by the Indian government for years. Things cannot be reversed in a short time. Give Tata some more time and you will see major improvements. Already AI has become the most punctual airline in India, something which was a distant dream when managed by Gov. Look at Vistara which has been run by Tata from the start!
Worst airlines. One should only travel in it if Air India themselves pay you to go with them, rather than you paying for travel :)
