Anyone know why Glassdoor and Salary.com are always so much lower than reality?

According to them, tech salaries in Seattle are like $120k. SW Development Director median salary says $214k. But in reality, Directors make like $1M+ Does anyone find those websites to be actually useful? They seem completely useless for negotiation.

Outdated. And they don't include RSU

They're base salary only and that's super stupid because somebody earning 500k at Amazon will still have a base salary of 160k

Amazon ceo has 175k base 😅

Glassdoor users see less salaries, ask low numbers, once hired update low numbers Levels.fyi users see high numbers, negotiate high range, gets the job, and update TC with 20% mark up

They have crappy requirement for logging in and browsing, these were not smartphone native apps from the get go, they used to have a website long before. You were allowed to browse some content without logging before they start harassing you to sign up or login. As a result only a few motivated people may be entering salary info. These days Blind has become the de factor workplace discussion app, so you’ll find more updated numbers here.

Companies pay Glassdoor. That’s their business model.

Glassdoor also shares people information with those companies?
