What’s up with Indians and the word “Kindly”?
So gun violence and mass shootings is being discussed widely. But there are other factors that affect life of people and kids on a daily basis. We feed ourselves and our kids with sugary, salty and preservative laden processed foods on a daily basis. These foods are cornerstone of the American food industry. Yet, we don't discuss or fear about it as much as we do about gun violence. These foods lead to health problems and affect majority of the people. Edit: I am not saying gun violence is not a major issue or nothing should be done about it. But people tend to focus and discuss it more on the cost of other factors that are affecting millions of lives (Prescription Drug addiction (Fentanyl), Obesity, heart disease, diabetes kill more people in the US every year!)
There are many many many issues, but the longer they can distract us the better for them
Distract from what

Cutting sugar = less deaths by gun violence? In "the only country where this happens regularly"? Okay Microsoft
That's not what OP is saying. OP is saying that far more people die every year in the US of obesity related illnesses than die of gun violence.
I know what op is saying, I'm pointing out that the logic doesn't connect and it's clear that OP is perhaps deflecting or is more concerned about something else than what's being stated
Why not both? Michelle Obama did try to do something with the "healthy plate" thing.
Yes, I am not saying gun violence is not a major issue or nothing should be done about it. But people tend to focus and discuss it more on the cost of other factors that are affecting millions of lives (Obesity, heart disease, diabetes kill more people in US every year!)
Actually, the death rate from Fentanyl is higher than gun violence and road accidents combined. However, it is not as headline-grabbing as gun violence is
For some reason we keep pretending addicts are just bad people who deserve to die, it's senseless.
Except we had a war on drugs ..
Probably not as scary as you’re less likely to be killed by tasty snacks being randomly fired at you with deadly force because you were in the wrong random place at the wrong random time.
Yep, this is it. It's because it's based on fear, not rationality. Same reason everyone's terrified of shark attacks at the beach even though you're more likely to die any number of other ways on the way there.
I feel like you maybe have to be a little desensitized to think this volume of shootings is acceptable or just happens? Respectfully! Apologies if I'm putting words in your mouth but public shootings don't happen at this frequency in other first world countries right??

Because eating shit foods - an individual choice - will never be able to instantly kill someone nearby. What a stupid take. We do talk about diet and we are ben allowed to study it (unlike gun violence). Michelle Obama even made healthy eating in schools her main focus as first lady and was routinely mocked by the right for it.
Watch some food based documentary and you will realize that eating shit foods is not individual choice but more policy based. US government subsidizes corn (main ingredient of high fructose corn syrup), making it easy for companies to make cheap sugary foods! And a lot of people buy cheap foods due to affordability issues! And sugar and salt is very addictive! A person under 16 can't buy alcohol or tobacco but can easily buy those sugary and salty killer foods! If you check any major grocery store, they have more processed and packaged foods (including processed meats, dairy) than whole produce like fresh veggies and fruits!
because DS capitalists wanna a full control on you, stupid dem voters
Democrats don't focus only on that. There's laws about healthy food in schools, providing food at all on schools - for example CA just started requiring all schools to give all kids lunch. There's also funds for things like parental leave (CA gives at least 8 weeks for both parents) and many others. California isn't perfect, but it has a lot of good things that other states don't.
Worthy goals, OP. Gun violence affects me directly (well not yet *knock on wood*). But other people getting Type 2 diabetes only affects me obliquely, via higher Medicare costs. Also, can’t we walk and chew gum at the same time? Why not focus on both?
You are right but that's what I meant. Most dicussions are focussed around gun control and calls for law to be more strict with gun ownership. No such concerns for food policy!
