New technique called CAN Injection allows thieves to steal a car in 90 seconds: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/watch-thieves-steal-an-suv-in-90-seconds-the-key-fob-doesn-t-need-to-be-nearby-217397.html And it's becoming a growing problem in Toronto, like Kia boys in other cities. I'm looking to buy a car, but don't want to have to deal with it being stolen or its windshields smashed/headlights taken apart. What car is safe from this? Lexus/Toyota was what I was going to get before I found out about this.
Get an old school car that’s only opened by key ;)
Pre 1993 maybe
Mid 90s to Mid 2000s we’re best. Remember those old 2nd gen Camrys in the early 90s? Eventually the metal in the key cylinder would wear enough that you could start it with a screwdriver
This is terrible considering car dependency is a serious problem in America with terrible urban planning and a lack of walkability excluding certain cities such as Philadelphia and New York. This is the reason I’ve avoided getting my driver’s license and saving up for a car. What’s the point of owning something that costs as much as a second home in 1950 if manufacturers won’t take the time to ensure proper QC for their cars? TC: 90K
Or stop voting for politicians who are soft on crime. You can still get mugged walking or on public transport.
The real reason youve avoided getting a driver's license is something else... just sayin
Get an old stick shift. Even if they could bypass the ignition lock, they're not driving it away.
This. It’s the millenial (and now genz) anti-theft device.
Eh, not so sure about that hypothesis. The delinquents illegally ripping wheelies with YZs/KXs on the streets of your preferred US city know how clutches work and most of their shit is boosted. Car theft seems like a inevitable progression.
Public hanging for car thieves.
Lol that would not solve anything except your liking for watching people get hang
Some people are trapped in centuries old mindsets
CAN injection is not new car manufacturers just don't seem to care enough about security and that overlapped with low level criminals finding out about this vulnerability that is over ten years old. This is entirely the fault of the manufacturers being lazy
Tell me don't own a flipper without telling me you don't own a flipper
Look up that video where the guy wires a flashbang to his car door. Or get one of those old school wheel locks.
Get a Tesla then, Peasent.
Just get insurance?
