I recently broke into software engineering after attending a CodeSmith, a coding bootcamp. My undergraduate degree has nothing to do with my occupation now. I'm working as a software engineer, with 6 months of on-the-job experience. I think it makes sense to, sometime in the future, get a Master's degree in Computer Science to bolster my career and resume. What do you all think? What are your recommendations?
Nah just get certs for the applicable things you work with. A CS degree is great but certs are faster to obtain and cheaper than uni.
What TC did you get coming out of CodeSmith. Is the avg $120k for grads true?
I landed $138k in TC. Yeah, the $120k median is correct but they’re reflective of higher COL areas. I’m in the Bay Area.
So it is true. I live in a HCOL not the Bay Area city. Might be worth the leap then.
id say get a masters but do it after a few years of coding and do it part time! As we get older having a masters proves useful for senior level roles and provides level of job security. it’s also nice to continue to keep learning to keep up with industry, id do it if u can afford it i would definitely not break bank just to get one
No, your on the job exp > masters degree. You already broke in, so get as much exp as you can
