If you had to choose between a Snr. Manager role at Yelp (L5) or a Senior Lead role at Google (M5), both in marketing, what would you choose? Yelp seems very stagnant overall so I'm likely leaning toward Google but interested to get perspectives from marketers at Google too. #marketing
Google anyday
Fuck Yelp, bro. Google is eating their lunch with their restaurants, bar reviews. If not G, then go join a pre-IPO unicorn. Yelp is wack.
Is the senior Mgr role a people manager while senior lead is IC?
I think Google. Depends on what you value more. If you join as a L5 at Yelp, you would be among one of the top management and be able to influence the business directly. At Google you would be just another engineer but with better pay (probably) and a more stable job. Yelps culture used to be great but post pandemic it does not really matter.
Do people even read posts or just reply? This is about marketing, not engineers.
No brainer Google even just the perks will be better + name /rep in the industry
How is this even a comparison
Yelp is boring Google ofcourse
It is a manager vs lead difference. Depends on which career path OP wants.
Congrats! Google! š Give us an update OP. (P.S. can you give some tips on what it's like doing marketing at your level?)
TC for bothā¦..
Both are very similar in the mid $200s but Yelp stock never goes up
What is the difference in job responsibilities and scope? If same at both, then Google. If Yelp is people manager or more strategic role compared to Google, and if that is important to you, then Yelp.
