Hi I am 31years old, been in Austin for 6years and work remotely. I recently visited London for a week and realy loved the big city vibe. I have been thinking of considering a move to NYC since a year but just don’t have the guts; at the same time I feel like I am missing out on an amazing experience. I am single, love to travel and am pretty social; I know financially the move doesn’t make sense; but what do yall think? TC 230k
Do you have an exit plan?
I don’t. Can you please elaborate?
I don't think NYC can be forever. You can be there to experience for a bit but you gotta get out. It may not work out as planned. But it's good to have a north star. 1 year, 3 years, 5 years whatever you think is reasonable. Plans can change but be deliberate about it
Don’t YOLO. Just rent a place for a month and stay in NYC. NYC is bearable when you swing hard, but when you live here, you get lazy and just sit home all the time. Buy a house in Austin, and just come to NYC time to time. I assume you work remotely or can get a few weeks allows for remote work
Go for it. 230k is great and you can afford Manhattan. NY will take you though just a heads up
How much more expensive do you think it will be more? With tax and living expenses perspective?
You won't need a car so cut gas and insurance out of your budget. Food is roughly the same price. Rent will be at least 3000 for anything worthwhile. 401k will be worth more due to the taxes too so if you have the budget for it, increasing your % will save money
