First clarification : I'm still on an H-1B. Been in the country 10 years. GC approved 8 years ago and still waiting.I just want to pass on to my fellow Indians on here, nuggets of wisdom that were either told to me or ones that I conjured up on my own: 1. Stop complaining about the "anti-immigrant" sentiment. Everywhere in the world, somebody will hate somebody else. In India, somebody hated you. Here, somebody else hates you. It may or may not be rational, and may or may not be warranted. You are not the only one facing it. I have seen Indians being incredibly racist towards Black, Chinese and mostly towards other Indian people as well, and you know this to be a fact. Wherever you choose to live - somebody will hate you. You cannot change the behavior of others. However you can absolutely control your own behavior towards others and how you react to surroundings. 2. Stop worrying about losing your H-1B. I can guarantee this is hardly the worst thing that will happen to you in your life. If you built a life here, like I have, the worst you'll do is sell your house and settle back in India, or NZ, or Denmark, or Australia, or Canada, or literally a hundred other countries that would give you a job opportunity. You adjusted when you moved here. Your kids will adjust if you need to move elsewhere. This is the way life works. Get over it. Enjoy your time no matter where you are - America, Australia or Papua New Guinea, life is what you make it. 3. Stop complaining about GC queue in a way that makes it seem overtly unfair to us. The GC system is not unfair when viewed from a neutral perspective. That doesn't mean we don't ask or lobby for change - Campaigning for change in the law to make it better for us is completely fine. But understand that everyone in life basically campaigns for what is better for themselves. Changing the GC law helps us and not others. You are not owed a GC. Simply because you think you the law is unfair, does not mean the law is unfair. 4. Nobody owes you anything - you owe nobody anything. You came here because someone sponsored your visa, the USCIS approved it, the consulate officer granted it, your company sponsored your GC, DHS and USCIS approved your green card. You did everything 100% correctly, legally and the American system allowed it. You have nothing to apologize for. Stand up for your rights and don't let people tell you otherwise. I see many people saying "Oh I'm scared to say anything about this, I'm not American, I don't want to cause any trouble" - you're covered by the first amendment just as anyone else. In fact you're more American when you stand up for your own rights. 5. And while nobody owes you anything, respect and be thankful for all that you have received and achieved in life regardless. Every single one of you on an H-1B today is doing better in life than 99.9% of people have ever done today or in the entirety of history. You have money, employment, great surroundings, opportunities and abilities many people never had or will have. Respect the country you live in and the people that live here. I see some of us shitting all over American culture trying every trick to defraud the system and reaping every benefit offered to us. America is awesome and better than most places on the planet. Give that some respect. Otherwise you wouldn't choose to live here. Don't be an entitled asshole Indian that's constantly complaining about everything here while knowing full well you won't and don't go back no matter what. Be the Indian that causes the people who know you to go tell others, I don't know why you hate Indians, they're an awesome lot. You cannot control how people around you behave or circumstances around you change. You can however control your own destiny with your own choices and they way you react to these circumstances. Live a good life instead of constantly spending your life worrying about H1 and GC and what not. #peaceout #highonweedrant #stayblessed

Well put
Preach!

Great post!
Great post - and for everyone who says āIāll move to Canada tomorrowā , āIāll Move to Australia tomorrowā please donāt do this and wreck your career. Donāt underestimate the economic potential and opportunities of living in the US. There is literally no point moving somewhere just for a PR. You can do that if your visa gets rejected but donāt voluntarily do anything. Max out your stay in the US for as long as you can.
Great point. There is no better country than America to pursue oneās dreams and becoming the best possible version of oneself. Period.
This is one of the best posts I have read here, among all the negativity. Thank you for bringing it to lights!
Based Indian
pray tell me what the bias here is.
Based kinda means the opposite of bias. It means someone who is telling the truth and getting everything right
