Yelp is trash

Just watched an interview with Yelp CEO that just confirmed the company is trash. Every business on Yelp hates the way Yelp chooses to operate. Forces small businesses to pay to take down reviews proven to be falsified. It’s all about money to them. A shame because the platform could choose to prioritize helping small businesses over short-term monetization. #yelp

“Forces small businesses to pay money to take down reviews” - nothing can be further from truth. (I work at Yelp.)

My Dad owns restaurants that are of course on Yelp. As do many of his friends. I have dozens of specific cases of there being indisputable proof of the review being of the wrong establishment or otherwise incorrect and not being able to get Yelp to correct them. Only paid solutions can counter those fake reviews. As a secondary datapoint, you see these places with 95%+ review scores on open table with 3.5 ratings on Yelp. There’s no reliable way for operators to correct Yelp reviews. Aside from its necessity to be discovered, Restaurant owners despise Yelp.

Sorry about the poor experience. Did you folks try flagging these reviews? Every single flagged review is moderated and if it is found to be in violation of Yelp’s content policies, it is taken down. Also, do you mind sharing more details on how “paid solutions counter fake reviews”? (Yelp may not always take down a flagged review, but the same objective standards are applied to whether a business is an advertiser or not.)
