I was interviewing with Appian which was very slow moving and they were scheduling my final interview. In the interest of full disclosure I told them since I started interviewing with them, I received an exploding offer from a startup, accepted, and started work, but would be willing to leave my new position if they made an offer. I thought given the state of tech job market and being transparent this would not be a big deal. The recruiter went back to the team who decided to cancel the rest of my interviews because they were "uncomfortable" and it made it "complicated". I asked the recruiter but haven't heard back, any ideas on why this would make them so uncomfortable they would cancel everything up on hearing it? Did I make a mistake in being transparent with them?
Troll. No one is this dumb.
Yeah personally I wouldn’t have been so transparent. I would have just told them you were in discussions with other companies and anything they could do to expedite their process would be helpful.
That just shows they can’t trust you will stay on the job after hiring. Being transparent is good but you still have to be tactful.
👆this!
So I should have just completely hidden the fact that I started working somewhere else? Wouldn't that come up in background checks?
What did you expect!? You should have stfu about your other offer
I guess expected them not to care because they know they are slow moving and startups move fast, and lots of people get offers coming in at different speeds. My work history shows anything but job hopping, so I guess I was surprised.
Your work history may show you haven’t job hopped (could just have been lack of opportunity), but you literally told them that you would.
I would have been quiet about it, but the other company expected me to update my LinkedIn so I assume they would have found out anyway and wanted to get ahead of it. It wasnt just an offer, I actually had started working.
DO NOT do this. Complete the loop or just give a vague reason to speed things up. Or if you really do no want to move forward - tell them that you have an emergency at this time.
Why would they hire someone who clearly has no issue leaving a job after a couple days?
Sorry to be harsh, but this was a pretty dumb move on your part,
I should note I couldn't hide it because the new company plastered me all over the website and due to the type of work I updated my LinkedIn. Would have been trivial to find out, so I opted for transparency. Not sure hiding it would really be an option
You were not a top interview candidate it sounds like
