I recently got promoted to Sr. Data Scientist in Aetna, living in New England, base salary $120k which makes me feel underpaid. I really love the team and the projects I am working on. Recently I got an offer from a financial enterprise for $150 base, the prospective manager advocated for that pay. I really canโt decide between leaving Aetna where I am currently handling high profile projects vs new job with better benefits and advocating manager. Would it be possible to negotiate with Aetna to level up my package. I wouldnโt threaten but would approach it something like, I love working here and donโt want to leave even after getting an external offer, would you be willing to level up? Curious about thoughts and thank you in advance!
Advocate for yourself! Youโre underpaid. Use the offer you got to get higher base & bonus if you want to stay. Good luck!
I was a senior data scientist with 117K TC in NYC (seriously), I was at least 20K underpaid. I think youโre at least 15K underpaid. I got an offer for 153K TC and left for the new role. Now Iโm over 200K TC. A company thatโs willing to start you at a higher rate is going to be amenable to paying you even more in the future. If you feel underpaid, you probably are. if it bothers you enough to be considering other offers, you probably should listen to your gut.
