I know it’s not as transparent as it’s in FB, where it’s absolutely formulaic. Googlers please share your refresher at L4/L5 levels with satisfactory performance rating (I saw it got 0.9 multiplier corresponding FB “meets all” rating that gets 1.0 multiplier). Also, if one joins say in January 2019, he won’t get refresher until January 2021? So if refresher amount is x, in 2021 one gets x/4, and then in 2022 gets x/2. So over 2019-22 four years period only 0.75x refresher is vested, which sounds quite low compared to FB or Apple refreshers. Please correct. @Google
You get refreshers every year (based on perf, and level) except EOY when you join. Make sure you don’t join in jan, try joining near end of year so wait for refresh is much smaller (1 yr wait vs 2 yr wait). The idea is refreshers stack and if you promo/get better ratings, they can become large (for L4, I’ve seen anywhere from 80k-150k refresh, for L5 I’ve seen 110-200k). In practice many peoples total comp falls after 4th year (how much it falls depends on whether you got massive grant coming in, and how much larger your refreshers have gotten).
What is the formula at FB?
Roughly speaking: X * Average ratings of last two reviews * Prorated duration employee was employed at the company. X is determined based on the level. For “meets all” rating, L 3/4/5/6 gets 40k/ 70k/ 120k/ 200k respectively.
FB is slightly more than Google it seems
