I'm talking to some startups and one said they are setting comp for their first dedicated Product hires "based on what Carta suggests for series A." Has anyone had experience with how Carta does this? Does anyone know Carta's ranges for PMs and Engineers based on funding stage? Is it adjusted by geography or experience? Thank you! https://carta.com/private-companies/total-compensation-management/ #seriesa #seriesb #carta #salaries #carta
It’s quite low for Series A.
I don’t think this is a good sign. You use carta to figure out average salaries.
You could use it for that but you could also use it to make sure you provide a legit offer for the market for an employee you want. A big complaint we heard from companies was they kept not getting offers they thought were good turned down because the execs just didn’t know the market like if they expanded to a new city. I mean it could be to find the average to pay it but just giving an example of another use.
I have a small sample size. The only time I hear carta in conversation is when it’s used to justify average compensation package.
