I'm staring deep down the barrel of 34 letting age creep with anxiety from dying poor I've worked analyst jobs for over 6 years with a 2 year stint as a ‘software engineer’ Low COL with a 160 TC living relatively well but not what I want to be I got pushed into management and the business side but I have a touch of autism, you can see it in my eyes Well you can't really because I avoid eye contact Can’t help but over analyze how I react But forget about my many social missteps they’re far from the impetus for my career change mindset I love to teach and help the team with tech problems But the deeper in business I go the less I get to solve them More than that, I want to know if I have what it takes to compete with the big boys and play for high stakes I’ve mostly been the technical guy on a non-technical team but people don’t come to SeaWorld for the zebras if you know what I mean I won’t lie and say money is not a factor but it’s far from the largest benefit I’m after I have some light experience but nothing that could compare with what I’d expect the bad boys would deem fair built some automation tools to do away with the tedium implemented features but my skills are still below medium I can bang out leet code hard, fast like I’m sonic optimize it all like I play with zachatronic I’m making this post for my illumination, and ask what would you do Low COL and decent compensation, would you power through? And deal with the question and boiling rage over how you missed your shot at the biggest stage? or would you tell yourself that dreams are monumental and accept you might deal with that PIP potential The corporate kingdom follows life, it’s manage or be managed don’t know how I’d deal with a 25 year old Stannis Might not be so bad if given a long leash and left to work on puzzles that interest me Or is this all a pipe dream, something to keep me blowing through the 9-5 and keep the the morale flowing They say grass is always greener on the other side but sometimes the tracks in the middle do more than just divide what you have from what you want, what is real from what you see sometimes they divide a man from what he’s supposed to be. #career #advice #life #old #ageism #careerchange
