I am currently looking at options to buy electric/Hybrid SUV(s) with pure electric being my first choice Tesla is a little too expensive, are there any other better options? Or should I wait until big players really enter the market In my opinion after a while when Tesla is no longer a monopoly the prices of other electric cars will be less and since there will be lesser demand for gas - gas prices may also come down? What are your thoughts
If gas prices are your only motivation for hybrid/electric you might want to reconsider. Given the higher out the door cost compared to gas cars you won’t even break even if you don’t drive a ridiculous amount of miles.
I do drive quite some miles to work everyday
Hybrid Toyota Highlander if you can get hold of it.
Subaru solterra costs >45k, basic Forester starts at about 26k. So you have an extra 19k to spend on gas. IRS says it costs you 62.5 cents per mile so you basically start out 30k miles ahead with a gas vehicle. I imagine if you have solar panels, you can come out ahead in the end if gas prices continue to rise but right now, if you have an existing vehicle you can keep driving, I would just wait for a couple of years to have more options for better pricing, longer range and faster charging
Another (perhaps somewhat extreme) way to do the math is that 19k will buy you 3800 gallons of gas at $5 a gallon. At 25 mpg, that will get you 95k miles which is about half the life of the car. I am ignoring maintenance costs which are likely higher for gas and hybrid vehicles vs fully electric.
Electric is not cheaper even in the longer run. At this time EV manufacturers give usually 7 years or 100K miles warranty for the battery. Replacing the battery is very expensive. So if you are making your decision based upon price, electric is not the way to go. Electric vehicles also loose value quickly due to tax incentives (which you may not even get) adjusted in resale value. if you live in a city/metro area and can charge at house with special lower electricity rates for charging, you'll find electric worth the extra price. The savings would be time saved from maintenance, gas price uncertainty, time wasted at pump etc. The ride would also feel a bit more agile unless you were in a luxury gas car.
The new Hyundai Ioniq is one of the best looking cars ever made in the modern era. No idea how it drives, I haven’t been able to test one yet. Everyone I know with one loves it. The Mach E is fun to drive and worth it. Stay away from the ID-4 at all costs.
Ioniq 5 or EV6 will give you the best bang for your buck right now
Stealerships marking them up though
If you can find any 2022 bolt ev/euv they offer 1.9percent interest rates through gm and also free charger installation Pretty good deal given the market. You should be able to get it at sticker price
Kia EV6 or Hyundai Ioniq 5
BOLT EUV
Let me check that - thanks
