Microsoft India vs Flipkart India Offer evaluate
Hi everyone Have got a offer from Msft hyderabad and Flipkart bangalore, both for India, and will appreciate your guys help to evaluate currently working at Goibibo(MakeMyTrip) TC: 20l (all fixed) no variable YOE: 3.8 March 1st week Had a GS(SRE platforms team, Associate) offer with - 28 fixed + 5-6L(verbal bonus, not on paper), have already declined as I was not very keen to join there Mid march Msft (azure commerce team L61) - 23 + 20% perf bonus(have heard they only give 10% practically) + ~4.5 (stock yearly till 4 years) Few one time monetory stuff - 2+1 JB and 90K extra while relocation April 2nd week Flipkart (inventory mgmt team SDE 2) - 29 + 10% perf bonus(have heard this is avg so expecting this is practical no.) + 3 (stock yearly till 4 years, currently this is paper money as its unlisted) My thoughts 1.I was and still am really inclined towards msft as I am looking for a good brand name(from indian context) 2.But now Flipkart came up with a big difference in base and since future increments depends on base that can be a factor 3.Got a good vibe from msft manager in HM round, at Flipkart it was not very good from the managers way of talking seemed like they are not enjoying much. 4. Both of them not ready to negotiate, msft didnt negotiate even once(I only had GS offer at that time, got flipkart after almost a month) Reason to switch was get to a good brand name, and have always had a view that msft is a good brand(for some reason) but flipkart offer got me all confused now, If i join it for TC It will be similar to MMT i guess (in terms of brand) Please evaluate and suggest guys(considering the long run). Do consider other factors as well that I might have missed? @Daaaku, dont see much growth here in coming 6-8 months with the work i have and covid impact still there in travel industry Just curious, Did you move from mmt to adobe or more switches in between ?
I was severely underpaid. But growth was one of the best i found at Mmt. With good wlb. Remember, growth will be less in mncs like ms Adobe almost always. So if u need to continue on same growth goto flipkart, else go to Ms. Wlb will be an issue in both ms and flipkart. Azure is known for bad wlb. Free advice, weigh in teams and work also and not only compensation.
Can you confirm if by inventory management u mean promise team in flipkart.If that's the case definitely avoid it.

Only Base doesn't matter. It's yearly TC including public RSUs which matter. Check MSFT stock growth in past few years. It's basically like you see TC growth due to company stockprice growth while base hike depends on lot of factors like perf., manager, team etc.
I had a mate who left flipkart in 6 months because of stress and lack of work life balance. My vote is for Microsoft(RSUs are a significant advantage which more than makes up for the lesser fixed component)

Both low balled on stocks. Sde-2 equivalent level should usually get atleast ~10L per year in stocks. You're right that base determines increments, but also remember that each level has an upper limit, you'll stay there until promo if you start at top. Pay is one thing but job satisfaction is also important, you mentioned you liked ms better, so consider that as well. My suggestion : Try to negotiate with ms to get more stocks, current stock is what L60 gets, if that is not possible you should decide based on what you have now. I see that you mentioned differences in brand, job satisfaction, culture and TC. You should weigh these and decide if one is worth the other. Depends on what matters more to you. Think from growth perspective as well, how soon will you get to L62 in MS vs SDE-3 in Flipkart, and what'll be the tc over-all over the next few years, and what if you pick one now level up and jump to the top of band in other one after ~2-3 years. Also, if possible try Amazon also, they pay much better, learning wise also it's comparable to the offers you have but you'd have to sacrifice on wlb a bit. And, even if you don't want to join, the offer itself can help you to negotiate much better.

@hayama, yes I felt lowballed by msft, and yes tried amazon around jan didnt have much prep, couldn't clear bar raiser then, still in cooling slighlty off topic, but if you have any tips in general for behavioural rounds, please share, I find it hard to make up hypothetical answers around the situations given in such rounds Thanks for detailed info
Which team in Flipkart? Flipkart offer is good and work will be better in FK if you're getting good team. WLB is obviously better in MS but it's not that bad in FK either if you're in good team. FK yearly appraisals are not very good for avg rating. Not sure about MS regarding this.

I have many friends working there who is regretting moving there . Also on blind you will see people of Msft writing that they haven't coded something concrete from long time Its best place to chill but for learning this is not great place On top of that tech stack is pathetic
Both are lowballing in stocks. Don't join either and continue trying elsewhere.
Flipkart is a better brand name in Bangalore tech scene than Microsoft. If your team in FK is not good, you can move internally after some time. Most importantly, FK is based out of Bangalore so you will have an opportunity to participate in their core work and learn scale. Microsoft is good if you want really good work life balance.
