I saw that a lot of you gave useful recommendations in the cars under 20k thread. I'm in the market for a car under 40k. Things I think I need: 1. Driving assistance (lane centering/keeping) 2. Compact SUV. I'd like to do some light car camping and chilling in the trunk at a campsite. 3. All wheel drive for the ski trips or driving to snowy regions. I know snow tires will help more here but all wheel+chains should be good for one off trips? I'm ok with new or used cars. My short list: 1. 2019/2020 Audi Q3 Prestige. new MSRP 43k but I think I can negotiate to under 40k 2. Toyota RAV4 hybrid limited. New MSRP 40k. Has all the features of audi and more (remote ignition, heated steering, heated rear seats), don't really like the interior and display panels though compared to Audi. Cars rejected: 1. Mazda cx5: no lane centering assist 2. BMW x1: Over budget for AWD+driver assist 3. Volvo XC40. Over budget in desired config. 4. Honda CRV. Don't like it plus bad reviews for its lane centering assist. Anything I'm missing in my rejected list? Any other recommendations? Any comments on Q3 or RAV4? #cars
Outback?
Toyota is a lifeless car! Stay away! If possible try Lexus...
Have you taken the time to see some of our fine offerings from GM!?
I haven't. I pretty much went by the usnews best cars list and saw the top 3 in luxury and non-luxury suv categories. Any specific recommendations I should check out?
A moderately equipped new blazer would probably meet your requirements. Otherwise maybe one of the Cadillac crossovers.
Subaru Forester has a good driver assistance package. Their AWD system is very good as well, not that you will need it. From q3 and RAV4, I would go with the Toyota. Frustration free car
Mazda CX-5 has lane keeping assist, had rented 2017 model a few years ago and it had that feature. Nice compact SUV with a lot of features of you get it fully loaded
Genesis g70
I found that cars have lane centering capabilities all the way back to 2017. For ex 2018 BMW X3 has it as an option. So now I'm looking at used models under 40k. I've heard bad things about used German cars. Are 2-3 year old Audi/BMW vehicles a bad idea?
Audi had some really fancy lane centering and adaptive cruise control back in 2017. Only a few models/trims have it though. How long are you planning not stay with the car? If you are planning to stay more than 4-5 year, then you will probably have headaches and spend a lot of money with maintanence.
Planning to use for 4-5 years.
Ferrari made in China
Lexus UX or NX. UX is under $40, NX is slightly above that.
Thanks. Haven't considered Lexus yet! Looking into them now. I should mention that I'm also looking for driving fun. That's not a strong suit of SUVs but would like to optimize for it within my other more important constraints. I have an impression that Lexus in general are not known for their agility but worth looking into for sure!
On only reason I recommend is because you had shortlisted Rav 4 at about $40k. NX is pretty much RAV4 with luxury bells and whistles and pretty much similar price point.
