There’s going to be an emergency shut down
https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/01/google-cuts-hundreds-of-core-workers-moves-jobs-to-india-mexico.html "Just ahead of its blowout first-quarter earnings report on April 25, Google laid off at least 200 employees from its “Core” teams, in a reorganization that will include moving some roles to India and Mexico, CNBC has learned. The Core unit is responsible for building the technical foundation behind the company’s flagship products and for protecting users’ online safety, according to Google’s website. Core teams include key technical units from information technology, its Python developer team, technical infrastructure, security foundation, app platforms, core developers, and various engineering roles. At least 50 of the positions eliminated were in engineering at the company’s offices in Sunnyvale, California, filings show. Many Core teams will hire corresponding roles in Mexico and India, according to internal documents viewed by CNBC."
Soon Google will be acquired by Infosys and move into offshore servicing
Sundar's legacy
Layoff in U.S. hire same in India for cheap. Going the IBM route.
Dividends and cloud consulting next. Always happens when you get MBAs at the top.
Call your representative and complain. Few years ago they were telling everyone and their mother to pickup coding in order to offset the loss of manufacturing jobs. Now what?
Now Pick up entrepreneurship, and then everyone will be an entrepreneur in a decade or 2, and then no one will be left to be hired as an employee, demand will rise for manufacturing and service industry employee and new generation will then be asked to pick new manufacturing skills but wait they will be competing with AI and robots so they won't be hired and left for the streets
Old news which was reported on 17th April. The numbers then were unknown, but now more is being revealed. The 50 people who got axed in MV, I hope you get placed soon and put this all behind.
If you all knew about thousands of engineers in core working on the same/similar stuff with huge overlap and people screeching at walls to find something impactful, you would all realize that this is a nothing burger. Obviously, 200 colleagues losing jobs is not ideal, and this has got to be traumatic, but past suggests that they will be able to land positions elsewhere in the company or find a higher position outside.
if it'll happen to core it'll happen to every team. just watch.
Bud...it already happened to every team. There is an unbelievable amount of fat at this company. My post was about ridiculous claims of Google stopping support for Python, flutter teams....which is bonkers if you knew what actually transpired.
How much revenue and profit Google is making outside the US. Are the employment numbers in proportion to those percentages? If companies expect more revenue outside the US in future, the jobs will move there. This is an additional point apart from cost efficiency.
Who would’ve known. Indian National in India costs less than H1B in California Sundar will make India great
Sundar is doing his best to collect his $250M payday
So uh, what's the solution for developers here? Clearly companies are gonna stop at nothing to offshore to cheaper areas. Should I move to those cheaper areas?
Create your own company and hire from those cheaper areas
The last time the market was really shitty, we saw some great companies rise up and revolutionise tech. One of those companies was Google. The answer is "roll your own". If there aren't any good companies out there, try building one. It won't be long before investors see that big tech is dying, and they'll start pumping money into the next big things.
