Count non-work related physical books, audio books only. Mention number of books read in the comments and also what you read, how you make time, any hacks etc. #mentalhealth #burnout #Fun facts #TIL #Today I Learned
Out of those who don’t read, why not?
Always have a non fiction, mostly hard copy book for learning I read on weekends and fiction action/adventure I read on kindle when I’m in bed. Occasionally an audio book, though many friends exclusively go that route
I don't like audio books and read physical copy only. I read 1-2 books every month. I love reading philosophy books.
There should be a distinction between the 1-12 section. Book readers would know that someone reading 1 book per year vs 1 book per month are not in the same category.
+1 I can relate to a middle way between those 2 poles. More like one book/quarter if it’s been a good reading year.
I usually read anywhere from 12-24 books a year. Mostly classics or non-fiction. I usually read for 30 minutes to an hour after I get in bed before going to sleep.
I read mostly SF/fantasy and related fiction and will read through a whole bunch of books wben I discover a new series. Probably averages out to like 2 books per month but it's burstier than that.
Favorite fantasy books?
Ever, or recently? Recently have been on a bit of a translated light novels kick, mostly dorky Isekai stuff Ever: Zelazny, First Chronicles of Amber (technically 5 books but they are skinny little ones by modern fantasy standards)... Lord of Light, and Jack of Shadows are also amazing. Lawrence Watt-Evans, _The Misenchanted Sword_ (and most of the other Ethshar books) De Camp and Pratt, _The Compleat Enchanter_ (or various other collections of the same short novels; has a couple of different versions) Honorable mentions * Anne McCaffrey, _Dragonflight_ (first book in the Dragonriders of Pern series) * Paula Volsky, _Illusion_ * Michael Stackpole, _Once a Hero_ Alternate history and SF books that may appeal to fantasy readers; + De Camp, _Lest Darkness Fall_ * Joan Vinge, _The Snow Queen_ and sequels * S.M. Stirling, _Dies the Fire_ and MANY sequels (starts as a realistic-ish disaster series but becomes legit fantasy as the series goes on) * Harry Turtledove, _Ruled Brittanie_
The number of books you will read in a year is approximately equal to the average number of pages you read in a day (because the average book length is approximately the number of days in a year). Read just five pages every night and you're at about 5 books a year.
This is awesome advice
What books are the people who read a ton are reading? Like are they reading non-fiction? fiction? I've always tried to get back into it but I always choose something way too dry or overly-ambitious and stop lol
