My company is super toxic, and I want to leave. Here is my life situation: Currently a full-stack senior software engineer. Full remote. ~8 YOE - I need either a full-remote or hybrid/in-office in DC/Northern-Virginia position at 205k base-salary a year - If I take a hybrid/in-office position in another city, I would need 235k + the cost of annual room rental as a base salary (I can't scale back family financial commitments, hence moving myself would mean I would need to add the cost of a room rental and daycare to it) - I don't want to rely on up-ranking, as I only study 2 hours a week in algorithms & data structures (and I would still need to refresh on system design) I know layoffs and "year of efficiency" is the current "meta" for tech companies. How realistic is it for me to find such a position that meets my financial goals? Thanks for the input #engineering #software #swe
Your best bet is to understand demand for the existing skills you are really good at, and find a very similar job offering to apply for. Staying in toxic environment where you don't thrive puts you in risk over time, consider checking what is available and start interviewing to explore options
