Got an offer at an early stage AI startup. Been at Amazon a little over 4 years and will soon hit the end of my L5 vesting cycle. Is it worth jumping ship for newer grounds ? What are some risk dimensions I haven’t considered yet? How can I do more due diligence into the startup to see how legit they are ? Seems pretty new. One thing that attracts me is the ability to learn. I don’t want to miss the AI ship when it comes to tech because I’m loafing around waiting for stocks to vest. L5 YOE 6 TC 300K Next year gonna drop way more tho lol
There's a lot of AI startups that are just money grabs: Prompt wrappers on top of out-of-the-box LLMs. Check that
"Leave Amazon..." Yes
Bad time to jump ship, but if you're hitting the cliff and not many more stocks to come, I'd say just go
Depending on your background/experience/age. If you are young say under 35 w/o kids or married, then yeah have fun. There are lotcha boomerangs who tried startups and came back if you found it not as exciting. Or try out diff FAANGs. or even different industries (anything but lawfirms/medtgech/govjobs)
Given the current AI space, how hard is it to get “in” at an AI startup without skills ? What will the landscape look like a year from Now ?
Yes
