So I recently got an offer from meta in the llama 3 org. While I'll be joining as a software engineer, it'll be entirely in the genAI space (think python/pytorch maybe a little bit of c++). I don't have much experience elsewhere ( 1 year working at flexport doing standard rest apis in java). Wondering if it'll be a career pigeonhole of sorts to have a lot of genAI and ml stuff on resume if I need to team switch or job switch later on. In other words how hard is it to switch from ml roles to standard swe roles without a major downlevel. Thanks
You can change teams after a year if you don’t like it. Don’t have to make a career out of it.
How hard is this process. Are managers typically very picky with who they choose? Have you seen people switch teams across orgs/domains?
Yea it’s very easy to switch teams within the same job function. No interview needed, just chatting to hiring manager of the new team.
yes its gonna pigeon hole the shit out of your booty hole
Is this SWE or MLE role?
Swe but super ml heavy swe
Some holes are great to be in
