What budget should I have for a car? NW: 160K Monthly expenses: N/A. I live with my bf so no rent. Only other costs are eating out which is not a lot relative to rent. My credit is still new so I doubt I’ll get anything below 3-4%, so I won’t be going to a credit union (none near me either). I will finance it most likely. I have been eyeing EVs in the $30-60K range (Accord, Ioniq 5, Model 3), but I also don’t want to dish out a lot of $$$ if it means my insurance will be a lot higher. #personalfinance YOE: 1 TC: 180K
The accord has an EV variant? Thought it was just hybrid. Depends on what kind of car you want. Quality between an accord, Hyundai, and Tesla are pretty similar (Tesla quality is trash). What are you looking for in a car?
Correct, Accord only has hybrid which I’m finewith. Qualities I’m looking for: - electric/hybrid - sedan/hatchback - don’t care much for speed, etc. safety features are important - I’m in CA so not concerned about driving in snow - automatic - Bluetooth - 2019 or newer (flexible on this) - good mpg - not a Toyota Corolla/Camry/Prius Less concerned about the exact car and more concerned with the budget I should set, especially with respect to insurance costs since I’m new driver
I’d do a Lexus RX Hybrid if it’s within your budget.
Getting an EV right now is like 1 year of wait time, even some famous plugin hybrids.
Nah tesla can pump out your car crazy fast during end of quarter delivery cycles if it’s a model 3 or Y. For sure if you add FSD but even without it’s still much faster than before
Come on do the math it's basic, you should be knowing about your stuff like how much you can spend on payments
Cash for a 15-20k car.
U can get a 100k+ car and still not be hurting too much if ur not paying rent lmfao But in all seriousness you can get anything in that range you mentioned, for the car what do you wanna get out of it, that’s your decision to make.
First car? Already working? For what purpose? Since you’re already getting to work etc I’m assuming this is a non critical purchase. Since it’s your first this late and you’re asking, you’re not a car person. Go buy something cheap that’s reliable. <30k. Grab a Toyota Corolla or something.
This is one of those questions where there is no one correct answer; you need to make a call based on your values. If it were me I wouldn’t spend more that $20K maximum. I would buy a nice used car (~5 years old) and save to spend on other things: travel, hobbies, rent in case of breakup, a down payment on a house, etc.
Smart
Pay cash… what ever you can buy with that
$100k. I enjoy driving
