Thinking about leasing a Mercedes or bmw with ~600-700/m 4-5K down. Does it make sense with my TC? I am not trying to be super cheap, I want to balance and enjoy riding good car as well as I never had any of those. As a second option: Let’s assume that my friend will help with the cost as we live together and we might share the car. TC ~190K
Why many ppl thinks its a lot, what’s a good TC for such lease?
Have you considered maintenance costs?
Yep, it’s a lease and new car, so it would be a ~3 ~300 dollars of oil change, also can do it at 3rd party to lower it. Unless I am wrong
The lease should come with oil changed. Typically all maintenance is covered with the lease. Source: I’ve had a bmw lease for 2.5 years and haven’t paid a dime in maintenance despite getting it serviced when they recommend I do
For comfort get a Volvo. BMW/MB “comfort” is mostly just squishy plushy leather and foam everywhere. In the case of BMW, lots of folds/edges/seams/angles to make it look cool. Not real ergonomics.
Any specific Volvo?
Not really. Volvo seat engineering / passenger ergonomics are second to none.
Waste of money, and sharing the car financially is a horrible decision
The comment I was waiting for
At this TC get a economy car, saved money can go towards investments or towards downpayment of future home. Don’t go all in on one bucket. You can buy a fancy car after a few years.
Get a Tesla, if not then get a Lexus
Horrible advice to get a Tesla
Show me on this doll where Elon touched you.
How is Lexus in comparison to BMW?
Leasing a luxury car is the way to go. Educate yourself on how a lease works and the pros/cons (one huge con: there's no easy way to get out of a lease without a significant financial loss). Also - I recommend you put $0 down and aim for a monthl payment under $700. Focus on getting the biggest discount off of MSRP (Seling Price/Capital Cost) which will drive the monthly payment down.
Why not take that down payment and get a less-upscale, but solid used car like a Honda, Subaru, or VW with it, and drastically lower your car payment. Or, are you in the position to wait a little longer, save the cash, and just buy a car outright? Just because you can, doesn’t always mean you should. I’m also severely allergic to taking out loans for depreciating assets, so that’s where I’m coming from… TC $125k
