I recently joined browserstack. They have bad policies like: 1. You will get 2 days off every month.. not at the starting of year. 2. You cannot work from home (exception in covid) 3. You cannot take half day.. there is no half day in browserstack.. 4. You don't get medical for your parents.. only spouse and kids.. 5. I think even medical is of very low quality.. 6. There is some punching attendance system also.. 7. You can reimburse cab only if you are working late like really late around 11pm These are the things from onboarding.. I may have been spoiled after working in walmart š.. Or maybe it's really bad.. Is it really like this as told in onboarding or little different... TC 34 lpa

Thank god I failed their interview :)
A recruiter pinged me, but I didn't respond š.
+1 They interviewed me twice - 1. SDE, I panicked and failed badly. 2. SDET, cleared all the rounds, but rejected them. But it was a nice trip to Bombay, free flight + free hotel + free food. So I enjoyed the journey. š
Start interviewingš terrible policies
Got 100% hike will wait for at least 1 year and then switch to faang.. Also will be learning a lot which will eventually help me sustain in faang..

Curious to know what additional things did you get in Walmart? Once office opens, I do realise a lot of folks might jump ship due to the non friendly policies. This actually stems from the very top. RA/NA both believe nobody works from home and it's just a way of scamming by employees. They've themselves mentioned that they've been proven wrong with the output employees wfh have provided. I believe they'll post new guidelines once folks start returning to the office. Going by the situation, it anyways won't open before 2022
Having these as 'policies' speak volumes about the culture of the company, don't think they value employees over their growth
Yeah right. I personally am the happiest with my wlb. I left a truly toxic company before I joined Bstack and trust me, folks don't know what you'll see complaining about. These are first world issues. Issues nonetheless, but I didn't even have these things in mind when I chose to work here
Their recruiter kept on following up with me even though I refused, now I feel great about my decision there! :D
How is wlb?
OP: While I would say that the policies you have mentioned represent only a small proportion of the overall culture, you are absolutely right in your gut feeling. The core issue with browserstack is it is very(100%) founder driven, so no matter what any other leader wants to do, it wonāt happen if RA doesnāt agree. Hence, some of the archaic policies like no WFH etc A lot of top management has left within a year because of how RA operates (ex: head of business Ops, head of people, head of growth) However, the engineering org is a little better as itās run by NA who is more people friendly and empathetic. But in some cases, even if he isnāt able to stand up against RA and that clearly reflects in product prioritisation, roadmap etc. I donāt want to scare you with all this: there are pros as well. Good pay, good rewards (Diwali hamper, allowances, international offsite pre-Covid etc). But Ofcourse these things only matter early in your career so itās a good place for first couple of years of your career. When you want to move on to real engineering problems to solve, you can start to lookout.
Ofcourse all of this doesnāt mean that the team isnāt doing great work. The product is solid, customers have great things to say and BrowserStack is an overall successful story when it comes to India SaaS. š
Wow thanks for explaining it so well. I am also thinking in the same way to spend a year or so learn a bit more and move on
