I have a start date at Facebook in Dec and will be able to give just 1 week notice at Apple? Has any had any issues with that? Will HR create a problem for me?
It's employment at will so there should be no legal issue. Just ensure you give proper handover plan to your manager and atleast appear sincere during your handoff. We are not as important as we think :) all the best at FB!!
Huh?! If you give notice on Monday, that will be 2 weeks before December!! Or am I missing something obvious here ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
just don't disappear. 1w is more than enough. You are not that important if you are not at VP level
Tell them you’re going to FB, you’ll get walked out the next minute.
Lol
Totally this. I have seen the case too.
Apple could fire you 🤷♂️ and get even less transition time?
Is that legal? To be fired AFTER you have given notice? That sounds like revenge and not a legal cause for termination.
Is it fire or lay off? If Apple gives the package then why not taking it and join the new company?
Legally you don’t have to give any notice. Practically, no one will care if you give zero notice or 1 week or two weeks. If your manager really dislikes you they may fire you when you give notice
If you feel respected and they treated you properly. I would give small notice just as a courtesy. If not then nope just leave the same day. Apple could walk you out tomorrow if they wanted. Business is business
You should be able to hand off anything you have in one week. Unless it's like 1 week before a new major release, your work can be taken over by a co-worker. Document and have a couple of meetings for knowledge transfer, push out whatever code you have, and leave when your week is done. Any company/manager that can't respect that is not worth keeping a connection after you leave.
Most people I know that have left Apple left the same day or same week they gave notice at Apple.
