I have been contacted by recruiter for a procurement role near LA, California. It's a 12 month contract and have been told of high probability of being hired on permanent basis. For compensation I was told it pays $80 an hour. I think that's TC of 160k. I've never lived in California and based on the 300k salary for SE on this ive bee seeing on this app I'm not sure if I can even survive on salary of 160k. Currently I have a stable job in austin, texas with TC 75K. I live comfortably. Is this a fair salary? The company is using external recruiting, how much are the recruiter making off this role? Do I have a chance of just applying directly? What do you guys think of 12 months contract? Procurement manager Current TC 75k
160k isn’t bad near LA. Houses cost about twice as much on average though.
Unfortunately most of these comapnies in LA will pay a high recruiting fees but won't accept directly. The recruiter are lazy and also it's cheaper for the company to have consultants vs FTE. For that position, it's actually good money. Can you name the company and I'd probably most likely tell you if they'll hire you as FTE or keep you as a consultant until forever
75k in austin is like 120k in LA so you would still be coming out ahead. Also rental prices are not as bad in socal as the bay so you could live quite confortably at that rate. I would be more concerned about relocating for a contract role - what happens after a year if they dont extend you?
You're completely right. That's actually one of the things that is also concerning me.
My buddy lived comfortably making 100k in sf. I think you’ll be fine with 160k in la.
I’d guess the recruiter can make a commission of 20-30% of your base pay based on their contract with the employer.
Should I go through the recruiter?
I don't think you have any other choice. Also recruiter fees are 35%+
