6 offers - Airbnb, Lyft, Reddit, Netflix, Apple, Atlassian - Request feedback or thoughts to find which one has edge

Cisco re.search
Feb 24 100 Comments

1. Assume all the companies provide competitive salaries top of the market, with Airbnb, Lyft, Reddit and Netflix as Top of market with few thousand dollars + or -.
2. Airbnb having highest overall compensation
3. Role relevance order and match are at: Airbnb > Reddit > Netflix > Lyft > Apple > Atlassian
4. This is for a between L4 to L5 (OR) Senior Engineer (OR) Senior developer II (OR) Senior engineer II depending on the company nomenclature.

Please shed some light or thoughts on which one would have some edge. Should you need more info, I can share.

EDIT

Since TC was asked in all posts. The best compensation offered atm is at 330K per annum with base of 200K. This includes equity at today's offered rate. Rest are around same.

EDIT 2

Another ballpark: Lyft offered the best equity so far totaling 553K vested over 4 years. But their base is much lesser at 175K.

Thanks Narcos. I see you are from Netflix. Do you have any advice or is culture of fear real there?

Fear is mostly for newbies since they are not sure they can survive. The bar is actually pretty low. As long as you can do your job, you'll do just fine.

Also, think about the work. Of all these places, Netflix is known as the engineering power house. You will work on things of scale that maybe only 5 other companies can match. High impact, high learning and growth. Crazy smart engineering colleagues that will pull you into the Eng A league.

I fortunately got placed about 7 onsites within 10 business days in the last 2 weeks. Since everyone gave me a response only after a week, I am already doing the next set of on sites. So now, I have all the deadlines open and time to choose. It's just all happened. I got offers from 6/7 on sites fortunately. Hope this helps.

    Which team at Atlassian?
    Which team at Apple?
What kind of culture do you like?

First thought - anywhere but Reddit.
Second thought - future stock growth (Lyft or Airbnb) vs bankable comp now (Apple, Netflix, Atlassian)
Last thought - Atlassian beats both Netflix and Apple for open culture, lack of bullshit, and work life balance. No sense of Lyft or AirBNB in that respect. OTOH compares to Netflix or most reasonably high profile teams at Apple I wouldn't expect us to pay quite as well.

Also as someone else mentioned consider the commute.

Welcome. If you're seriously considering Reddit, what's your sense of the culture and do they have a better revenue story these days? Because it seems very much one of these things is not like the others in that list

As a platform, nothing but as a place to work, not sure what their revenue model is supposed to be for any kind of growth, and I've heard relatively negative things about the culture.

They literally just started monetizing their platform last year you jackass... they've also pulled big Dawgs from Twitter and else where to turn them into a revenue beast. It's actually a great time to join them and I've heard their culture is really great.

OP, mind sharing Netflix offer and your total experience?
    Feb 24 3
    • Cisco re.search
      OP
Netflix experience was great, I would say the tech questions were medium difficulty and not too grinding. The grinding part was the culture part which had totally 4 sessions (3+ hours) + two more sessions post that over phone. So totally its tech 3 hours + Culture 3.5 hours so far. As you can see, its very much culture requirement than tech.

Offer details are not fully closed from both ends, all I know is the base 10% higher than what was offered to me i.e. 200K posted above. I did not add that as the base, since I do not know the complete compensation yet.

      Hope this helps.

Reddit just started monetizing their platform last year, which means the upside is very real plus their engineering challenges are no different than Twitter with more users. They've also pulled big Dawgs from Twitter and else where to turn them into a revenue beast. It's actually a great time to join them and I've heard their culture is really great.
